Atlanta, Georgia -April, 2010: Continuing her remarkable comeback in the world of long distance running, Stephanie Herbst-Lucke took first place as expected in the masters division and second overall during the March 27 Atlanta Women's 5K in Atlanta. At age 44, Herbst-Lucke finished with a time of 17:10 in the annual 3.1 mile USATF sanctioned race, which was held in and around historic Candler Park to celebrate women and fitness. While taking first place in the masters division, Herbst Lucke finished just behind Jennie Kormanik of Atlanta, who at age 26, is nearly 20 years younger than Herbst-Lucke.
Herbst-Lucke, who is aiming to set a new American Masters record, recently partnered with Marietta-based foot care health and wellness retailer Foot Solutions to become the spokesperson for their "Get Out, Get Active" campaign, which encourages woman all over the country to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Foot Solutions is a worldwide company with more than 250 locations and a recognized leader in specialty footwear, custom inserts and technology driven health and wellness products.
Herbst-Lucke credits Foot Solutions with keeping her in top shape. As a masters athlete, one of the greatest challenges she faces is avoiding injuries. As an experienced athlete, she can find all the foot supportive gear she needs to maximize workouts while minimizing foot ailments. Foot Solutions offers a digital analysis of their client's feet so they can determine exactly what type of shoe they need, or if they need specialized arch supports, heal lifts or orthotics. "The one on one attention is great. It's like having qualified trainers there for you with the expertise you need to get out and get active," Herbst-Lucke said.
Herbst-Lucke turned to Foot Solutions for help after her inspiring return to competitive running. In the mid-80's, she was a world class runner after shattering collegiate running records at the University of Wisconsin. She was twice named the Big Ten athlete of the year and she won five NCAA championships, set two NCAA records and won seven All- American awards in track and cross country.
