Foot Pain
Bunions
What is a bunion?
A bunion is a prominent bump on the inside of the foot around the big toe joint. The bump is actually a bone protruding towards the inside of the foot, which can eventually cause the big toe to rest over or under the second toe (overlapping toes). Symptoms of bunions can include inflammation, swelling and soreness on the big toe.

What causes bunions?
Bunions are most commonly experienced by women, and are mainly caused by improperly fitting footwear. Tight, narrow dress shoes constrict the toes, and can cause the foot to begin to take the shape of the shoe.

How do I treat bunions?
In the early stages, soaking feet in warm water can help relieve pain. The best way to alleviate bunion pain, though, is to wear shoes with a high, wide toe area. Shoes with rocker soles, like Chung Shi shoes, can also help to relive pressure. Shoe inserts or orthotics can also help provide extra comfort, support and protection.
