Steadfast To The Core
The term "core stability" is related to the trunk, pelvis, hips, abdominal muscles and small muscles along the spinal column.
Recently more attention has been focused on improving core stability for strength, stability, success in performance and enhancing injury prevention. The #1 priority for professional athletes is the importance of good core strength or core stability.
Improving core stability helps maintain alignment from the low back to the ankles, but is most noticed in and around the knee. People with core weakness have increased potential for core instability and will be a greater risk for injuries of the lower back and various lower extremity injuries.
Core stability addresses:
- Posture - improvement of deep trunk muscles especially the psoas muscles, for pelvis strength.
- Co-ordination and Rhythm—during motion or activity to help maintain correct postural alignment and stabilize the spine while providing a firm base to support both.
- Enhancing physical functioning in daily living and helps protect joints and muscles from injury.
Tools used to improve core stability include:
- Custom Arch Supports
- Properly fitted shoes
- Nordic Pole Walking
- Rocker-soled shoes such as Chung Shi
